Healthy Living- Final Blog

I value the concept of healthy living. I strongly believe from personal experience and scientific evidence that I have acquired over time, that there are 3 components to healthy living. These three components are all intertwined into the concept of wellness and I don't think either one is "more important" than the other. Rather than focusing on which healthy behavior is "most important", we should be focusing on how to balance all of them.
1) Physical

  • Regular exercise has been proven to decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other detrimental illnesses.
  • Regular exercise has been proven to improve quality of sleep and manage stress levels.
  • Regular exercise improves muscle and bone strength.

2) Mental

  • Stress management is one of the most important things you can do for your health.
  • Breathing exercises, meditation, and other forms of mental health exercises has been proven to improve overall health.
  • Self-reflection is a key component to improving one's health.

3) Spiritual

  • Spending time in prayer and focusing on things that are in the control of Jesus is very freeing.
  • Believing in a greater power can improve the holistic view of health.
  • Spiritual health and self-reflection is vital.
Having a holistic approach to wellness can make the idea of healthy living sound appealing, rather than like a challenge. Setting goals and achieving them periodically over time can be rewarding because it comes with personal growth and getting a better understanding for who you are. Above all, it is important to know yourself, what you need and how often you need it. It is important to find what works for you and stick to it. The first step of healthy living begins with being self-aware.
